BitGen was orginally created to generate image data for a wheelie bin that used eight aerosol cans, configured as a crude dot matrix printer.

The idea was that if anyone asked, you were just putting the bin out...

In reality eight aerosol cans quickly created a choking cloud of paint that was impossible to ignore.

After realising that 'Automated Vandalism' would most likely lead to inconvenient legal complications, other more socially acceptable uses had to be conceived, hence the 'Light Wand', 'LED Scooter' and 'LED Pixel Frame' were created.

Over time full colour and animation support was eventually added, along with the ability to add text and edit the images.

The Light Wand draws images as you wave it around (with full colour addressable LEDs). The scooter uses white LEDs and coloured gels to get the colours. The images are captured using a long exposure.

The LED Pixel Frame uses a 16x16 pixel grid to display images and animations.
